Many people are driven by success. In fact, people take great delight in driving a fancy car, sporting the most expensive clothing (even if they can’t afford it) and even wearing the most ridiculous wigs (sorry, I just couldn’t allow this opportunity pass by). Whatever the majority does today is really forethought or their definition of what it means to be successful, look successful and even think successful. While this is the case, I’d like to add that many are doing a pretty bad job at living up to what true success is. Since its challenging for many to find real success, I’ve outlined four movies that you need to watch to achieve your version of success in this life.
The Secret: Developing a Positive Attitude
Your attitude has a lot to do with your success. If you’re someone who’s lazy and de-motivated, even to take care of your own affairs, you’re bound to become a bum. This is what’s depicted in the 2006 film, The Secret, produced by Prime Time Productions. This film features a succession of interviews planned with the intent to show that whatever a person desires, can be attained or satisfied by simply believing that the expected outcome has already happened. This outcome is then expected to become your reality through extensive thought, through repetition and most importantly, maintaining a positive attitude or spirit. Ultimately, the film is based on the ‘Law of Attraction’.
With the objective of this film to assist in developing a better mental infrastructure, you can look for inspiration and motivation from it. Remember, in whatever you desire, always maintain an optimistic and positive attitude, demonstrating that you’ve already gotten what you want.
Fight Club: The Lure of Materialism and Detachment
Most people identify success with material positions. However, according to Tyler Durden, a character in Fight Club, “You are not your job. You are not how much money you have in the bank. You are not the contents of your wallet. You are not your Khakis. You are not a beautiful and unique snowflake”. Regardless of what Durden mentioned in the film, people will always hold material possessions in high esteem. Fight Club is the 1999 film about a normal white collar job worker who had enough of his job. With his dissatisfaction, he left his job and established a ‘Fight Club’ in search of happiness and what he terms ‘real success’ (if success is achieved by fighting, I’d suggest you get those gloves on and start knocking some teeth out.) The narrator of the film had to become what he wasn’t to attain the success that he wanted. This means that if you’re bent on being successful, you have to rub people the wrong way. The narrator also realized that he needed to detach from what he thought was holding him back. This meant detaching from his parents, god and his teacher. If you want a back seat into what it means to be strictly materialistic and completely isolated or detached from what could hinder success, you definitely need to watch this film.
The Wolf of Wall Street: Develop the Drive to go down Prosperity Lane
In no way am I encouraging you to be a wolf, but if you definitely want all the dirty intricacies of being rottenly success, you have to take a look at Leonardo DiCaprio in The Wolf of Wall Street. The 2013 released movie depicts to viewers what luxurious and extravagant things money can buy and what it cannot.
While there are some pretty gross and obscene language, graphics and acts portrayed within the film, one can actually discern a bigger picture once they look beyond the nude girls and the foul language. They will actually see DiCaprio’s drive and how he was determined to be big and outrageous in his acts. This is indeed a fitting demonstration of what it means to possess the ‘ruthless determination’ to succeed. Do you have what it takes?
If you’re determined to be successful, you’ll find it, no matter the obstacles. However, success, depending on how it is found has consequences as seen in The Wolf of Wall Street.
The Pursuit of Happyness: Hold on and Keep Your Eyes on Your Dreams
Success is elusive for many because of their circumstances. Many find themselves being confined to a wheelchair as a result of a debilitating illness, while others might have received a devastating beating from the economy. Whatever the reason, many have suffered by the hands of their ‘circumstances’. However, The Pursuit of Happyness, we’ve seen the Fresh Prince of Bell Air, Will Smith, take a different turn and maintained a different outlook where success is concerned after being rendered homeless because of financial struggles. How was Smith successful? The reality is, he never gave up and he kept his eyes firmly on the prize. If you’re in a very tight situation and feel there’s no way out, remember this film and you’ll definitely keep fighting and not give up.
With these movies you’ll find that you’re more motivated and just a step closer to your definition of success.
