For years, telecommunications companies and consumer electronics designers – including smartphones and other equipment – have been teaming up in an attempt to expand their corporation or get their companies a shoe back in the game. One such recent partnership was established by Verizon Communications Inc. and BlackBerry Limited, formerly known as Research in Motion Limited.
Verizon and BlackBerry’s Duo: What is it?
The recent partnership made between Verizon and BlackBerry was expounded in a promotional video. The deal included offering $150 bill credits to companies boasting outdated BlackBerry smartphones. A BlackBerry enterprise holder could only qualify for this deal once they were able to make an upgrade from their legacy device to a contemporary BlackBerry 10 smartphone and BlackBerry Enterprise Service (BES) 10 platform. For every outdated BlackBerry device that receives an upgrade, Verizon Wireless offers $150 bill credit for each legacy device. With 100 legacy devices upgrading, the business user would receive $150 multiplied by the 100 legacy BlackBerry smartphones which would amount to $15000.
The Value of a $150 Credit Bill
Recipients of the $150 credit bill have multiple options with regards to using their credit. The bill credit can be set aside for technical support. Since this service is not without cost, enterprises with BlackBerry issues can use the credit for covering any technical expenses that are incurred. Additionally, smartphone protection is important. BBM Protected service can also be acquired using the allotted credit. This service provides reliability, speed and privacy for enterprise users when used. There are various other services the credit can be used to purchase. BlackBerry will also be offering to businesses that switch to BES 10 free license and technical support through January 31, 2015. There’ll also be an “EZ Pass” program which will allow customers to upgrade their BlackBerry Enterprise Service and from various mobile management programs. Requiring a two year contract, the deal involving Verizon only covers the BlackBerry Z10, Q10 and Z30 smart devices. There has been no information provided as to whether or not this will apply to future BlackBerry smartphones from Verizon.
How Will Enterprise Users Benefit from this Partnership?
An enterprise user who upgrades from their legacy BlackBerry device is qualified to receive a $150 credit bill from Verizon. With this credit, users can spend it however they deem fit. These include purchasing technical support which will allow them to call in to make an inquiry or to get assistance to solve a problem on their BlackBerry device. This deal is especially useful for those enterprise users who are not tech savvy. Also, they’ll benefit from the security of using BBM Protect and other services. An upgrade to a newer version of BlackBerry will mean increased phone features, apps, and other services. Overall, an upgrade to a newer version of the BlackBerry smartphone will save enterprise users money. Saving money does matter!
Why the Verizon and BlackBerry Partnership was Formed?
As with any joint venture or partnership, both parties have to see scope for growth or ways in which they can benefit before forming an alliance. This means that in one way or the other, Verizon and BlackBerry are benefiting from this duo to attract business users.
- How Verizon Benefits
Verizon Communications Inc. is known as one of the biggest telecommunications company in the United States. This means that they’re not reliant on this deal with BlackBerry Limited. However, regardless of how enormous the company is, they do benefit from this partnership. Verizon will be able to secure customers or retain enterprise personnel who are users of the BlackBerry phone. For subsequent years to come, the provider company will be able to benefit from the subscription of these enterprises, should they stick around to use the services. Not only will Verizon benefit from a long term relationship with customers, but they’ll be able to benefit immensely from sales received for the BlackBerry devices stemming from the partnership with BlackBerry.
- How BlackBerry Limited Benefits
The Canadian company has not been up to the game for quite a while. With companies such as Apple, Google and Microsoft at the fore, BlackBerry hasn’t been living up to the challenge. A partnership with Verizon is expected to get the company to raise its hat and revive its share in the market. Since there are various companies that are still reliant on BlackBerry for their devices and services in order to effectively perform some core functions, the company might be able to use these enterprises to reclaim the impetus it had in the smartphone industry. Instead of trying to obtain more clients (which might be a little difficult), the company is trying to hold on to its existing ones by using tactics and offers that would peak their interest. By teaming up with Verizon, this venture might be feasible for the company.
With this partnership between Verizon and BlackBerry, not only will both companies benefit, but enterprise users will be able to save big while securing a newer version of the BlackBerry device, technical support when needed and overall security for their BlackBerry smartphone.
