The Flash is back in action, but I’m a little gloomy. Why the gloom? It was not what I eagerly anticipated. Yes, I am difficult to please, but it comes with the territory. The brawl among The Flash, Cold and Heat Wave was pretty riveting and thrilling, but I was expecting to see someone from the past – an old friend. To watch The Flash and ‘my’ old friend (*CoughRonnieCough*) in a tag team duo would’ve been worth my time and it’d give the series a little boost in action. However, that didn’t play out well. As underscored in the series, “Revenge of the Rogues” is a continuation of what previously happened between The Flash and Captain Cold. As if his initial encounter with Barry in ‘Going Rogue’ wasn’t enough, Captain Cold returned with his absolute opposite, Heat Wave. The temperamental underdog was no push over, but he needed to get his attitude straight. Cold and Heat Wave were totally incomparable. Cold was solid and a thinker, while Mr. Heat wanted things the easy and quick way.
Overall, watching the rogues go toe-to-toe with The Flash was insanely awesome, but I was nonetheless disappointed. I’ll tell you why…
Where’s Ronnie a.k.a Firestorm?
You do remember Ronnie, don’t you? That’s right; He’s the hottie on fire, literally. It’s quite obvious Ronnie has issues, but for the love of goodness, why disappear at an inappropriate time? So what, you’re undergoing major changes and you think you’re a monster, but there are more important things in life…such as saving the love of your life, Caitlin, from the two materialistic maniacs. My last encounter with Ronnie was nothing short on action since he was able to set the Reverse Flash aflame and fly off. Yes, it’s not impossible. Ronnie was no superman clad in an awkwardly tight suit with a matching cape but he did fly away. You don’t believe me?…see it for yourself. My expectations for Ronnie’s return were insurmountable for the winter premiere, but he didn’t pull through. I thought he’d storm in for the save, but I guess I was wrong. Where’s the love, Ronnie?
While Ronnie went incognito for the winter premiere of the Flash, Caitlin did make some interesting developments about a project called F.I.R.E.S.T.O.R.M. I’m no rocket-scientist but I am pretty sure that project had something to do with Ronnie. While those in ‘high’ places wanted the project to go poof, Caitlin might pick up and discover something even more interesting and life threatening.
What’s up with the drama?
Boy likes girl, boy tells girl and the list continues. Whatever the outcome, it doesn’t need to get any more complicated than this. The tension between Iris and Barry is at an all time high! Frankly, I don’t like it! I’m an advocate of love but when it interferes with my focus, there’s a problem. The air is too crowded and Barry is going through too much to become distracted from the bigger picture at hand – catching up with The Reverse Flash. Barry needs to become faster and better at what he does. However, with his emotions running wild, he’ll never get there. What’s the solution? Beats me! However, a change must come!
Cold is not as dumb as he looks
Devotees of The Flash have varying perspectives of Captain Cold. Some viewers firmly believe that Captain cold is not the best at devising, but I for one believe that the guy is an absolute genius – he definitely has the mind of a top level criminal. Heat Wave wasn’t entirely privy to Cold’s schemes. He was cognitive of what plans were in store for the super fast Barry, but Cold deliberately withheld his underlined plans. Why is Cold such a nuisance? What does he really want to accomplish? The Flash was just a blur to those fortunate enough to cross paths with him. However, after this episode, the entire world knows that he exists.
After being arrested by the authorities, Captain Cold made it pretty clear that his plan was successful. The world now knows that The Flash exists. I’m bewildered at present and simply aching for the next episode to hit the scene to discern Cold’s plans regarding the existence of The Flash.
Another Rogue to join the Rogues
You never know when to draw the line when frolicking with DC Universe. Just as one door closes, another door opens. I was sure about Cold’s capture, but I was shocked to see how things turned out. If “Revenge of the Rogues” taught me anything, it’d have to be to expect the unexpected. I was positive that this was the end of the road for Mr. Cold, however, that dream was short-lived when someone rescued him. Viewers were not given a face, or name, but I am pretty sure Captain Cold was rescued by a woman (he DID say “Hey, sis.”). I’m even more excited about the upcoming series. Who is this woman to save the rogues?
Until then, see you.
